Bird Sanctuaries

If you enjoy bird watching, then you are definitely in the right place. The Texas Parks & Wildlife department and the Houston Audubon Society jointly offer the 'Bolivar Loop.' Beginning in High Island and ending at the Bolivar Ferry, the loop offers many different great spots for viewing some of Texas’ beautiful wildlife. Most locations are open during daylight hours only.

Wallis Smith Community Golf Course

If you can manage to bring your golf clubs to the beach without risking a trip to divorce court, you are in for a unique experience. The Ranch at Crystal Beach offers a Par 36, nine-hole, links style layout playing 2750 yards. The Ranch is open every day from dawn to dusk. Like Disney’s Magic Kingdom, no alcohol is sold at the Ranch, but feel free to bring your own cooler with beverages of your choice. Non-playing wives, girlfriends, and kids ride free. Pets welcome but they must be cat friendly. Don't try to call because the Ranch doesn't have a phone. Tee Times not required, just show up, put your money in the box, and play. Green Fees: $20 Weekdays - $25 Weekends, cart included. We don't have rental clubs, but there are a bunch of mismatched clubs you are welcome to use. They are not great, but there is no charge.

Port Bolivar Ferry to Galveston

 

The Galveston-Bolivar ferry is the link between Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula on Hwy 87. A service provided FREE to all travelers 24 hours a day by TX-Dot since 1934. Each trip covers about 2.7 miles and takes about 18 minutes. Each ferry can carry approximately 70 vehicles, 500 passengers and 6 crew members, only 8-eighteen wheelers may board at once and carry 80,000 lbs. each. You can drive your vehicle-on or walk-on depending on your plans. One ferry operates 24 hours a day while a second is placed in service at 6:30am and a 3rd in the afternoon. Up to 6 ferries may be in operation during peak seasons, holidays, events and as traffic calls for more frequent service.
